Caitlin Clark seems to be feeling the weight of the world on her shoulders. Whether it’s her exclusion from Team USA or the scrutiny of the media, the pressure seems to be getting to her as she was caught on camera during the Indiana Fever’s most recent blowout loss pleading for help from anyone who would listen.
Caitlin Clark needs help
Clark scored just 10 points while recording four fouls and three turnovers in the 89-72 loss to the Connecticut Sun. However, the frustration filled video seemed to be her way of diverting attention away from her performance.
It’s clear that she says, “Come on, help me out,” most likely toward the referees. Clark has been treated like a rag doll in her first 13 WNBA games, as competitors like Chennedy Carter have given her a physical welcome to the professional game. On the other hand, Clark has attempted the 8th-most free throws of any player in the league this season (58).
Social media does not show sympathy for Clark
“she’s getting hammered every play. Come on help me out here is something i’ve said to refs 100x,” said one comment on the video on X, formerly Twitter, before noting that LeBron James does the same thing.
“Notice how she didn’t deny that it was a foul she just didn’t want the ref to call it,” a less sympathetic fan chimed in.
“the attitude of a true olympian to some folk,” another social media critic said, highlighting another point of contention over Clark recently.
Perhaps Clark’s silent cry for help was a small window into the feeling of helplessness that comes with the relentless ire of the media. As much as she disagreed with the call, “come on, help me out” could have just as easily been a message to her coach who is hiding her, her teammates who are struggling, or the talking heads like Stephen A Smith that don’t seem to be doing her any favors.
