The UConn Huskies women’s basketball program is one of the most decorated of all time. UConn has won 11 national titles but its been eight years since it has reached the pinnacle.
After losing in the Sweet Sixteen in 2023, the Huskies look to make a title run behind the star play of Paige Bueckers and Aaliyah Edwards. They enter the tournament as a 3 seed and have their work cut out for them as they continue to deal with injuries.
Despite the setbacks, UConn cruised through the Big East Tournament and has won nine straight games to build great momentum heading into the Big Dance.
Just last year, a 3 seed captured the NCAA crown. Could UConn have a similar fate in 2024? Here is a look at the Huskies’ potential path to winning the 12th national title in program history.

How UConn can reach Final Four, win March Madness
Round of 64: No. 14 Jackson State
The Lady Tigers enter the tournament on a 21-game win streak. Jackson State hasn’t lost since the calendar flipped to 2024 with its last loss coming to Texas on Dec. 27, 2023.
After going 18-0 in conference play, Jackson State punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament by winning three games in the SWAC Tournament. The Lady Tigers’ non-conference schedule featured multiple power conference opponents, preparing them for the NCAA Tournament stage.
Round of 32: No. 6 Syracuse
Don’t sleep on Syracuse, a team that went 23-7 and 13-5 in ACC play. The Orange face a First Four winner in the opening round, which could set them up well to advance to the Round of 32.
Syracuse is led by fifth-year guard Dyaisha Fair, who averages 22.0 points per game and ranks fifth all time in points scored in NCAA women’s basketball history.
Sweet 16: No. 2 Ohio State
Regular-season Big Ten champion Ohio State enters the tournament with a 25-5 record, good for a seed on the 2 line. They’ll be tested early on with a first-round meeting against Maine and a potential meeting with Duke or Richmond in the Round of 32.
Ohio State’s women’s team is led by decorated graduate student Jacy Sheldon and is battle-tested after competing in the Big Ten throughout the season.
Elite Eight: No. 1 USC
Should UConn advance to the Elite Eight, it would set up one of the best individual battles in this tournament.
Trojans guard JuJu Watkins is arguably the best freshman college basketball has seen since Bueckers. Their games are different but they are two of the brightest stars in all of college basketball.
Final Four: No. 1 Texas
As a 3 seed, UConn could very well run into back-to-back 1 seeds en route to winning a national title.
Texas is led by dynamic freshman Madison Booker, who is the first freshman to be named Big 12 Player of the Year. The Longhorns are one of a few teams to enter the tournament with 30 wins and have won four games in a row after capturing the Big 12 Tournament title.
Championship: No. 1 South Carolina
LSU is the defending champion but all signs indicate that the road to the title run through South Carolina, which enters the tournament at 32-0 and looks to complete an undefeated run.
In February, UConn traveled to South Carolina and suffered an 18-point loss. Should the Huskies advance to the national championship game, they’d look to have a different fate at a neutral location.
