LSU Mom sided with coach Kim Mulkey.
LSU women’sbasketball team has been one of the most talked-about teams in the NCAA, one of the reasons for that is coach Kim Mulkey and her strong and direct style, something that has left people uneasy, however, an LSU mom spoke strongly and directly, in her favor.
The Washington Post made a piece about her, and many were expecting a punch to the 4-time NCAA women’s basketball champion, but the piece said much about nothing other than to point out why people thought she was tough and did not like it, especially when it came to character development.
Kia Brooks, mother of Flau’jae Johnson was recently interviewed by a Baton Rouge local TV station and sided with the coach for that specific reason, “I trust her with my kid. Honestly, I do, because she’s not going to baby Flau’jae,”.
“She’s going to make her a woman. When she leaves here, she’s going to be a woman, you know what I’m saying? And I respect that because I’m not easy on Flau. I was hard on her.”
Brooks paralleled her daughter’s upbringing to the type of education she would teach at home.
“Anything you want in life you gotta go get it, you gotta go fight for it. There are a million kids out here trying to do what you’re doing, so what’s going to separate you?”
She also elaborated on the type of mentality that she believes will make her daughter a winner “She’s going to make her a woman. When she leaves here she’s going to be a woman, you know what I’m saying?
And I respect that because I’m not easy on Flau. I was hard on her.”
“Anything you want in life you gotta go get it, you gotta go fight for it.

Brooks also elaborated on how people are judging coach Kim Mulkey without really knowing her, claiming that she understands why young people may have an opinion based on what is said about her but grown men and women should not judge without knowing a person.
