(WACH) – Former South Carolina women’s basketball star Kamilla Cardoso is eager to start her WNBA career.
“I love this team and I know I’m going to leave them and I just wanted to be able to experience and live every single moment I have with them before I leave,” said Cardoso. “I know I’m going to miss them so much.”
Cardoso is leaving her collegiate-self behind in Columbia as she is joining the Chicago Sky for training camp this week.
“It’s like a big girl job and I’m going to have to grow up,” said Cardoso.
Cardoso credited A’ja Wilson with transition advice, but knows she’s got a strong foundation thanks to Dawn Staley.
“Teaching us good basketball, teaching us how to be a leader, how to communicate with teammates,” said Cardoso. “…she’s a great coach and it’s great to be able to learn from her and we just know she’s always going to get us prepared for the next level.”
Cardoso said she’s looking forward to not only growing her game in the league, but growing the sport itself.
“Bringing the fans,” said Cardoso. “We have a lot of fans that watch college and just bringing them with us to watch the WNBA, come to the games, just bring more eyes to the game.”
Cardoso said she was just added to the team group chat, and will get to Chicago on Thursday.
WNBA training camp starts on Sunday.
