Social media noticed Caitlin Clark’s subtle nod to a wrestling legend after Sunday’s final between Iowa and South Carolina.
The game, an 87-75 Iowa loss, was Caitlin’s last in college as she has decided to forego her final year of eligibility to join the WNBA. After getting past LSU in the Elite Eight and coming out on top of a tight contest vs. the UConn Huskies in the Final Four, Clark had hoped to win her first national title, which would have seen her leave the game on a high.
Unfortunately for her, Dawn Staley’s Gamecocks were simply too much as Kamilla Cardoso’s presence in the paint overshadowed what could have been a happy farewell for college basketball’s highest-ever scorer.

The Hawkeyes star scored 30 points in 40 minutes of action, hauling eight rebounds and making five assists. But it wasn’t enough to see her through to a win.
She took to Instagram after the loss to post a photo of her jersey and one of her shoes on the floor in a goodbye message. What may have also been a nod to The Undertaker wasn’t lost on social media.

Taker famously left his gear in the ring when he retired from wrestling. And, as it happened, the women’s final took place on the day WWE aired Night 2 of ‘WrestleMania’.
We can’t be sure Cark had The Deadman in mind when she set up her gear, but it’s still a great way to say goodbye.
Caitlin Clark Has No Regrets
While she’s left the NCAA without a ring after four seasons in college, Caitlin Clark insisted she had no regrets after Sunday’s loss.
“Whether it’s the way the fans have supported me, the way I’ve been able to represent my state where I grew up, my family being at every single game — there’s not a regret in my mind of how things went,” she said, via ESPN. “I’ll be able to sleep every night even though I never won a national championship.”
Clark is expected to be the No. 1 overall pick in this month’s WNBA Draft. We’re looking forward to seeing how things work out for her in the pros.
